Day 1: Gorilla tracking.

Early in the morning, you will depart from Gisenyi and cross over to DR Congo approximately the Virunga national forest terminal where you will be oriented concerning the dos and do n’ts while you are with the Gorillas. After the rundown, you proceed for the memorable adventure of gorilla tracking. burundi2Burundi is geographically at the heart of Africa but, sadly, has also been at the heart of African horrors in recent years. Here is a country of wonderful landscapes, from mountaintops to forests, huge lakes to tropical plateau. Burundi’s situation is improving. The democratically elected government in 2005 is engaged in peace talks and has announced applauded measures, such as that of introducing free education and tourism promotion.

Burundi things to do with us

We offer three to seven days itineraries. Visitors will be shown the jewels of Burundi by our knowledgeable driver and guide in either a 4X4 vehicle or minibus. Our company takes travelers to Karera Falls to marvel at the misty waters crashing below, Rusizi National park, where hippos, antelopes and exotic birds reside and to Belvedere a look out over Lake Tanganyika and Bujumbura. Travelers will also embark on a city tour of Bujumbura, relax on her idyllic beaches and get some souvenir shopping done in Gitega. While touring with us in Bujumbura Tourist can admire the country’s diverse flora and fauna, from Savannah to steppers, mountain forests to blooming fields, Including Chutes the source of Nile and seduced by the scenic and fun pleasures of Lake Tanganyika, where (in normal circumstances) cafes and restaurants line the lake. Here, there are some opportunities for water sports, including sailing, waterskiing and fishing.

Day 1. Arrival.

Arrive at the airport where we will meet you for transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight in Bujumbura.

Day 2. Rusizi National Park.

After breakfast we take a short drive to Rusizi National Park . Here you can view hippos, sitatungas (antelope) and a wide variety of birds attracted to the wetland environment. During the afternoon, you are free to relax at your hotel.

Day 3. Waterfall Visit and Burundi National Museum.

After an early breakfast we drive toward the south to visit “Chutes de la Karera” or the spectacular Karera Falls”. In the afternoon we travel to Gitega where we visit the Burundi National Museum before returning to your hotel for dinner.

Day 4. Discovering Bujumbura and the Surrounding Area

After breakfast we visit the mausoleum of Prince Louis Rwagasore, a hero of the independence of Burundi. We then climb to the “Belvedere” on the top of the hill, a dominating point of Bujumbura, offering a unique view over Lake Tanganyika. After lunch, we drive ten kilometres south to visit “La Pierre de Stanley et Livingstone” the commemorating stone of the place where the famous explorer Stanley uttered the infamous “Dr Livingstone, I presume” on meeting the legendary Scotsman. This was on 25th November, 1871.

Day 5. Rurubu National Park.

After breakfast we drive to Rurubu National Park, the largest protected area in northern Burundi. Rurubu National Park neighbors Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda and is the largest rainforest in Burundi with wonderful hiking opportunities and views. Late in the afternoon we proceed to Bujumbura.

Day 6. Kibira Forest National Park.

After breakfast we drive to Kibira Forest National Park for a walk in the forest. In the afternoon we travel to Bujumbura and transfer to Lake Tanganyika and relax at Saga Beach with entertainment by Burundi Drummers while enjoying a cold drink. Here, a boat tour on the Lake Tanganyika can be arranged, and for swimmers this may be an opportunity to swim in the lake. After some shopping we transfer to the airport for departure and sadly say our personal good byes after what will have been a fantastic experience in Africa.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival at Bujumbura airport- Night at Hotel Keza, or at Club du lake Tanganyika

At your arrival you will be welcomed by our Driver and local guide – transfer to the Hotel- Briefing- After Lunch we visit the mausoleum of Prince Louis Rwagasore, a hero of the independence of Burundi. We then climb to the “Belvedere” on the top of the hill, a dominating point of Bujumbura, offering a unique view over Lake Tanganyika- Be Entertained by le ’’Les tambourinaires du Burundi’’ or Burundi Drummers. Day 2: Kalera Waterfalls and Burundi National Museum- Night at Keza or at club du Lac Tanganyika (3hours Drive)

After an early breakfast– Drive ten kilometers south to visit “la pierre de Stanley et Livingstone” the commemorating stone of the place where the famous explorers Stanley and Livingstone rested during their attempt to find the source of the Nile; After we drive to Gitega to visit the Burundi National Museum before returning to your hotel for dinner and overnight in Bujumbura. Day 3: Early morning transfer to Nyungwe Forest- Night at Gisakura Lodge. (6Hours Drive)

After Breakfast drive to Nyungwe forest national park in Rwanda- We will pass through magnificent views of the beautiful hilly countryside which gives Rwanda its name as “a country of a thousand hills”- Arrive at Lunch time- After lunch we start the trekking in the forest to find the Blue monkeys, Angolan Colobus monkeys among others- Overnight at Gisakura Lodge. Nyungwe Forest national park is a preserved part of rain forest which houses 13 species in all, including humankind’s closest living relative the chimpanzee, as well as the handsome L’hoest monkeys and hundred-strong troops of the delightfully acrobatic Angolan Colobus which may be over 300 individuals. These are the largest troops of this species known in the world! Nyungwe forest counts 25% of the African Primates!
There are L’hoest monkeys and blue monkeys present and often observed around Uwinka, requiring less strenuous hiking.

Day 4:  Nature Walk in Nyugwe Foret – after Lunch Transfer to Butare (3 hours Drive)

After Lunch, you will embark on a  nature walk in the forest to explore Nyungwe’s unique features including waterfalls and orchids in the high altitude swamps. While hiking, you may see a variety of primates and bird species found only in this amazing park – back from the Forest at Lunch time. After lunch Transfer to Butare where you will visit the Historical Museum of Rwanda- Overnight. ( Mid Hotel: Ibis hotel /the only option)

Day 5: Transfer to Kigali Visit Rwanda National museum and the Genocide memorial site- (3 Hours Drive)- Night at Okapi or at Hotel de mille collines.

After breakfast- visit the Rwandan national Museum- Transfer to Kigali where You will Visit Rwanda Genocide Memorial to understand what happened in Rwanda in 1994 a year in which 1 million people died within 100 days and Overnight in Kigali. Mid Hotel Okapi, Top: Mille collines

The National Museum in Butare was donated in 1989 by the Belgium government and gave back a part of the ethnographic collection acquired during the colonial period. The design and concept of the museum was realized in co-operation with the Royal Museum for Central Africa of Tervuren , Belgium . The modern building has different sections and displays a wide collection of monochrome pictures, traditional artifacts and objects, tools and different craft products. Ethnographic objects are grouped together according to theme giving excellent information on the daily life. Traditional ceramics and basketry are still manufactured and belong to the finest handicrafts of the region. The National Museum remained surprisingly untouched during the civil war in 1994.

Day 6: Transfer To Gisenyi- Be entertained by Intore dancers in Gisenyi- Night at Peace Land or serena lake Kivu view Hotel (4Hours Drive)

After Breakfast- Visit the Genocide Memorial Museum then Drive to Gisenyi town at the shore of the Lake Kivu- we will have a stopover in Ruhengeri for lunch at Muhabura Hotel. After lunch drive to Gisenyi where you will have a spectacular performance of the Intore Traditional dancers. The performance is regarded by many as one of the highlights of their tour in Rwanda Overnight in Gisenyi (Mid: Peace Land hotel or Top: Serena lake view Hotel.
The “Intore”, once the elite of the traditional Rwanda army, were not only trained as military but also in high jump and dance. They were known for their remarkable technique allowing them to jump over 2m40. The Intore became worldwide famous as dancers in 1958 when the World Expo was held in Brussels. Today Intore dancers are part of the rich Rwanda folklore. The warriors dance is a jewel of the choreographic heritage of Rwanda. Dressed with a mane made of sisal fibre, Tied up on ankles, little bells jingle on each step, giving the warriors dance a thrilling rhythm. Throughout the Intore ballet, physical confrontation turns into artistic rivalry and then at “the end” comes out into a vigorous hug of the warriors. This is the most artistic gesture of friendship mutual aid and protection

Day 7: Gorilla trekking- Trekking in the forest on the edge of the Virunga mountain chain, to find one of the last mountain gorilla families in the world. Night in Goma at Lava Stone or Ihusi

Early in the morning, before proceeding to the park head quarters where visitors assemble at 07.00 for a briefing on how to” behave” while in the company of a gorilla group. You will meet your guide here and proceed to the starting point of the trek to our allocated group of gorillas. The length of the trek varies depending on where the gorillas are as well as what the weather conditions are. Meeting these gentle giants Gorillas in their natural habitat is a world unique experience everyone should have the privilege to experience.
It is important to bring good hiking boots, long trousers and gloves for protection against stinging nettles, some snacks & sweets as well as sufficient amount of water as the rain forest gets hot and humid during the day. You spend one hour with the gorillas which is a truly amazing experience “before trekking back to the base and return to your lodge / hotel. Mid Class: Shangwe or Lavastone, Top; Ihusi.

Day 8: Nyiragongo Volcano climbing. Night at the Top of the Volcano in tents

8. 00 Am. Meet you at your Hotel ether in Goma/Congo or Gisenyi/Rwanda and transfer at the super market for Shopping- 9.00am. Transfer to Kibati Village where the Climb starts. 10.30 Am. Start Climbing- arrive at the top late in the afternoon at around 04 or 05.00 am. You will admire the lava lake all the evening- Overnight in tents on the rim of the giant crater high above the violently active lava lake.

Day 9: Back from the volcano- Relax in Goma. (3 Hours Drive)

After breakfast at 7.00am, Back down from the Volcano- arrive in Kibati village at around 10 or 11.00am- Meet your Driver and transfer to Goma. after lunch enjoy a short city tour of Goma. Then Relax at Your Hotel. Lavastone or Ihusi hotel

Day 10: Morning after break fast- Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park-Night at Rwenzori International inn Or Mweya Lodge (4 hours Drive)

Aftetr Breakfast Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park- The road winds up into the forested hills and the views are breathtaking- and you have plenty time to admire them because some stretch are unsurfaced that you can only drive very slowly. It passes through deep-farmed valleys. The drive is reminiscent to what one would experience driving through central Europe- indeed this region of Uganda is often referred to as “Little Switzerland.” arrive late in the Evening and Transfer at your hotel- Night at Rwenzori Inn or Mweya Lodge.

Day 11: Queen Elizabeth- Game drive- Boat Cruise on kazinga chanel and Overnight

After an early breakfast- Set off with packed lunch for a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park to spot some wild animals like Lion, Topis, Elephants large herds of Uganda Kobs and buffaloes- in the Afternoon enjoy the unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward. This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of Hippos, buffalos, elephants and many animals may be seen drinking at the water’s edge. This cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing. Day 13: Nile River- Transfer to Kampala (2 hour Drive)- Night at Equatorial Hotel or at Red chilli

This day can be dedicated for white water rafting in Jinja. Alternative you will be visiting the source of the Nile River and Bujagali Falls- Transfer to Kampala and overnight.
Day 14: Transfer at Entebbe Airport for Departure

Take breakfast and then visit local markets or a Craft shop for souvenir shopping-Personal good bye- be transferred to the airport for your flight back

10 days explore Uganda the pearl of africa

You will be met by our representative at the Airport transfer to your hotel for an overnight. The following morning, set off for the safari heading to south western Uganda with a stop at the drum maker then at Equator of Uganda for snaps and breakfast. After breakfast, drive through twisted, winding roads and lake dotted countryside, before getting into the lower thorn and Savannah scrub lands of Lake Mburo National Park, the long drive between the main road and park entrance is an excellent opportunity to see the flora and fauna, including monkeys, impala and a huge variety of birds. There is also a strong possibility that you will see zebras, as the Lake Mburo National park is the only place in Uganda where one can find the Zebras. It’s an adventure, arriving at your accommodation in time for lunch, in the afternoon; you will have a boat cruise in the main lake where the park drives its name (Lake Mburo) along you will see the hips and many bird, then return to you accommodation or go for a swim! As you wait for supper and overnight.

DAY 2: (Lake Bunyonyi, for lover birds)
We set off early in the morning, drive south into the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes then Lake Bunyonyi, also known as the “Switzerland of Africa” due to the landscape and scenery that surrounds it, lunch enroute arrive Lake Bunyonyi in the Afternoon. In the evening you will have the opportunity to take a local dug out canoe trip to discover the islands around the lake. You will have a chance to take a nature walk on at least one of the islands to appreciate the landscape of the area and see the lake from a variety of different angles; you will see the pygmies and their ways of life.
You will have one night next to the lake where you get the chance to enjoy the sunset whilst looking out for otters and the many different types of bird life that are in the area. Spending the night and wake up with the love songs of the birds found in this beautiful area is a wonderful experience to last a life time.

DAY 3: (Bwindi National Park, The ultimate Gorilla Experience)

Next day after a good breakfast, continue driving through southwestern Uganda; drive up through the Kigezi hills and valleys and arrive in Bwindi early afternoon then have a well deserved lunch at your accommodation. This will be followed by simple walk to the Batwa community and the traditional healer – these are the shortest people in Uganda (the pygmies). Return to your accommodation for relaxation, supper and overnight.

DAY 4: 


Wake up in the morning, take good breakfast and collect your packed Lunch, then meet with your ranger guide before setting off into the gorilla sanctuary. The rainforest landscape is steep and densely populated with trees (you need to be physically fit) – it’s easy to see how the name of the park was derived from this forest! (Bwindi Impenetrable National Park); the park is crossed with animal trails allowing access for tourists in search of the GREAT GIANTS. The trek to find the earth’s greatest primates can take up to a full day, but the thrill of discovering this gentle giant in its own habitat is rated as one of Africa’s best wildlife watching opportunities. You will be allowed to spend one hour with the Gorillas. By the time you return to your accommodation the memories will be embedded in your mind forever. Take a refreshment then supper and overnight,

DAY 5: (Queen Elizabeth National Park: A melody of wonders)

Early in the morning after breakfast set off from Bwindi heading for Queen Elizabeth National park the drive will take around three to four hours, after arriving in the park take the road heading for the morning GAME DRIVE through the Savannah vegetation which brings to you a memorable morning game viewing when all the animal are looking for what to eat before the sun gets very hot. You are expected to see Lions, Buffaloes, Elephants, Bush Backs, worth hogs, antelopes, impalas e.t.c The park has a beautiful natural vegetation and land-scape with over 650 bird species making it number one National Park with Bird life. We shall have a break for lunch then continue with a Game Drive south into the remote area of the park, known as Ishasha searching the vast, infamous tree climbing lions! You can see three or more relaxing up in the tree after their heavy lunch; giving you chance to see again elephants, leopard, buffalo, lions, water buck, wart hogs and birds. Then drive to your accommodation for relaxation supper and overnight

DAY 6:

After Breakfast, take a morning BOAT CRUISE on the Kazinga Channel situated between Lake George and Lake Edward (Great Lakes Region), where hippos, crocodiles, elephants and buffalo will be in great abundance either at the water edge, or alongside your boat! The boat will take three hours up to the famous Kazinga Channel Landing site. There are many bird species which can be seen among others include the King Fisher, Pelicans, African Fish Eagle to mention but a few all these will be seen in large numbers, thereafter return to your accommodation you can go swimming as you wait for lunch.

In the afternoon, drive to the crater lakes region here you will see salt mining and many animal are found in this area because of the availability of salty waters. You will have the whole afternoon driving around the park looking for Leopards and Hyenas there after return to your accommodation for supper and overnight.

DAY 7: (The primate Capital of the World)

An early rise after breakfast we set off for Kibale National Park drive through Fort-portal town take a stop along the way to view the only highest block mount in East Africa (Mount Rwenzori) continue with the drive up to Kibale depending on where you will have your accommodation, you will check in before heading to the park headquarters for your Chimpanzee Trekking,

After lunch in the afternoon, set off for afternoon Chimpanzee trekking, after a gathering and briefing by the ranger guide you start our journey to trek the man’s closest relative the Chimpanzee. With sounds form different types of flora and fauna it’s an amazing life time experience. The park is endowed with primate lives which among others are: Chimpanzee the dominating ones, Baboon, all types of monkeys, Bush Elephants, over 600 bird species, butterflies and much more.
After a long walk in the forest we return tour accommodation for relaxation, supper and overnight

DAY 8: (Murchison Falls, The world’s most powerful Waterfalls)

Have an early breakfast, set off for Murchison Falls National park that morning driving through Kyenjojo up to Hioma or Masind with a break for lunch, the road through is gifted with beautiful plants up to Murchison Falls

If time allows take the road to the top of the falls, where you get to experience the awesome site of the whole river getting compressed through a 6mtr gap in the rocks before dropping 44mtrs with a thunderous roar. It creates rainbows and plumes of spray giving opportunities for some great photographs. We then return to our accommodation in preparation for super and overnight.

DAY 9:

An early rise with the sun after taking a cup of Coffee or Tea in order to be on the first ferry across the river – making the most of the best hours for Game viewing on the northern banks. Here we hope to find lions, leopard, elephants, buffalo, giraffe and many more of Africa’s big game. The Game drive will take about 3-4 hours then return to your accommodation for breakfast relaxation or go swimming at the Lodge as you wait for an early lunch to prepare for an afternoon boat cruise on the river.

At 14:00 hrs we shall head for the guided Boat Trip on the placid Victoria Nile, upstream of the base of the falls. En-route we will see many hippos, crocodiles, water buck and a wide variety of birds like the unusual shoe bill stork. The boat stops about 50mtrs away from the base of the falls allowing ample time to get some wonderful photos of one of the most powerful flows of water in the world. After wards we return to your accommodation for supper and overnight.

DAY 10:

After Breakfast, set off from Murchison Falls  drive to Masindi town and take a stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you have the option of walking through a national reserve getting close to the newly reintroduced White Rhino you can have a chance of seeing two or all. Lunch will be enroute arriving Jinja in the evening, check in your accommodation then supper and overnight.

Notes on Gorilla tracking

– Gorilla trekking is a strenuous activity and one should be physically fit to enjoy this tour.
– Minimum gorilla tracking age is 15 years.

–  Minimum chimpanzee tracking age is 12 years
– Anyone with signs of communicable diseases will NOT be allowed to track.
– While possession of a gorilla permit is a guarantee of trekking and sighting the gorillas, the quality of the gorilla trekking cannot be guaranteed.
– Maximum time allowed with the gorillas will NOT exceed ONE hour.

Day 1: Arrive at Kigali International Airport – Transfer to the Volcano NP

Meet and greet our tour guide/ driver who will shortly brief you about your tour in Rwanda and immediate transfer to the volcanoes National Park in the northwest part of this country.

The drive is through beautiful rolling hills, bypassing coffee, tea and banana plantations on a comfortable paved road and is approximately 2.5 hours from Kigali. Arrive at your lodge for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in the Parc des Volcans

Wake up early, have breakfast and report for briefing and after, move in a company of experienced ranger guides through the forest while searching for mountain gorillas. Time taken while searching for these great apes, rangers between 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorilla groups therefore, move with your packed lunch, water, tracking gears among others. Meet, chant and enjoy their entertainment for one hour while taking photos for remembrance. Return to your lodge, relax shortly and transfer to the Kigali for Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Kigali – Check out

Morning city tour of Kigali and after all, visit the genocide memorial site, a grim reminder of a senseless massacre of innocent’s lives in 1994. Learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to 1994 genocide and how Rwanda has dealt with that past. We continue with our tour and see the new developments in Rwanda; the recovery has been incredible, a testament to humankind’s resilience.

After the small tour you will be transferred to the airport for your out bound.
